Island flowers

Tuesday, 23rd July

one of the nice things about my job is that it never gets boring. From software to vehicles, from camping to lodges, from translating itineraries to climate charts, from guest questionnaires to Kili climbs, from online feedback to wildlife.. never a dull moment.

Today I was asked to send flowers and chocolates to a private island to surprise the VIP guests by putting it all in their room at arrival. The logistics are not the same as in many countries: I had to buy the flowers on the farm, get a vehicle to bring them to the airport, have them flown to Zanzibar, get the pilot to give them to the driver on Zanzibar, get the lodge manager to meet the driver at the boat point and then the lodge staff had to arrange the bouquet.. (And I spend the day on the phone) That is why travelling in Africa is expensive I guess, nothing is straightforward. But small things like that have great impact – when we pull them off 🙂

So picture A became picture B, but in between a car, a plane and a boat..
